When choosing a projector screen, different materials deliver distinct viewing experiences, and picking the right one depends on your usage environment, projector type and budget. Several mainstream materials dominate the market, each with unique advantages and applicable scenarios.
White matte fabric is the most common and versatile option. It features soft texture, wide viewing angles and natural color reproduction, which can restore the original tone of projected images without color distortion. This material works well for both home entertainment and small meeting rooms. It is affordable, resistant to wrinkles and easy to clean. However, its light resistance is average, so it performs best in dim rooms with little ambient light. If your bedroom or living room cannot fully block daylight, this screen will lose some image clarity.
Grey fabric screens are designed for spaces with moderate ambient light. The grey tone effectively absorbs scattered surrounding light, greatly improving contrast and black level performance. Dark scenes look deeper and layered, which is ideal for watching movies and TV dramas. Its viewing angle is slightly narrower than white matte fabric, and colors may appear a little dim in completely dark environments. It is a practical choice for ordinary home users who cannot create a fully black viewing space.
High-gain materials like glass bead and metal screens target professional use or bright environments. Glass bead screens enhance light reflection to boost brightness, suitable for long-distance projection or rooms with strong light. Metal screens excel at anti-light interference and high contrast, favored by home theater enthusiasts. Yet they have obvious drawbacks: narrow viewing angles, obvious hotspots in the center of the screen, and higher prices. For regular family use, white matte or grey fabric is more cost-effective and comfortable.
