The light source is the core component of a projector, and different types of light sources have obvious differences in service life, which is a key factor determining the long-term use cost and stability of the device. Traditional bulb light sources were once mainstream products. Their biggest drawback is short service life. The average usable time of traditional halogen bulbs or metal halide bulbs is only between 3000 and 5000 hours. After long-term use, the brightness will drop sharply, the color will become dim, and the bulb is a consumable part that needs regular replacement. The replacement cost is relatively high, and the whole process is cumbersome. This kind of light source also generates large heat and high power consumption, so it is gradually phased out in civilian home projectors and only retained in some high-brightness professional engineering projectors.
LED light sources have become the mainstream choice for home projectors nowadays, with a far longer service life than traditional bulbs. High-quality LED light sources can work stably for 20,000 to 30,000 hours. Calculated by daily use of 4 to 6 hours, it can be used for more than ten years basically without replacing the light source. Meanwhile, LED features low heat generation, low power consumption and fast startup, which perfectly adapts to daily family use scenes. Laser light sources are the high-end option on the market, divided into monochromatic laser and hybrid laser. Their service life is even more outstanding, reaching 30,000 to 50,000 hours. Laser projectors maintain stable brightness and color for a long time, with almost no obvious light decay. Although the initial purchase price is higher, they save the later replacement cost of consumables. To sum up, the type of light source directly decides the overall service life of the projector. Choosing a long-life light source can not only extend the service cycle of the equipment, but also reduce the extra maintenance expenses in the later stage.
