The picture quality comparison between projectors and TVs involves multiple core indicators, including resolution, brightness, contrast, color accuracy, and viewing experience, which vary significantly due to differences in display principles and technical positioning. TVs, especially modern LCD, OLED, and Mini LED models, have obvious advantages in brightness and contrast. Most mid-to-high-end TVs have a brightness of 500-1500 nits, which can maintain clear and vivid images even in well-lit environments, without being affected by ambient light. OLED TVs, in particular, achieve pixel-level light control, with an infinite contrast ratio—black areas are completely black, and bright areas are bright and transparent, making the picture layers richer and more realistic. In terms of color accuracy, TVs are usually calibrated at the factory, with color gamut coverage reaching 90% or more of DCI-P3, which can accurately restore the original color of the content, whether it is a movie, TV show, or game.
Projectors, on the other hand, rely on projecting light onto a screen or wall, so their picture quality is greatly affected by ambient light and projection materials. Most home projectors have a brightness of 1000-3000 ANSI lumens; in dark environments, they can display large-size images with good clarity, but in bright rooms, the picture will appear faded and blurred, losing details. In terms of contrast, traditional LCD projectors have a contrast ratio of 1000:1 to 5000:1, while DLP projectors with HDR support can reach 10000:1 or higher, but they still cannot match OLED TVs. However, projectors have unique advantages in large-size display: when the projection size exceeds 100 inches, the cost of projectors is much lower than that of TVs, and the picture has a stronger sense of immersion, which is more suitable for home theaters and large-space viewing. In addition, with the continuous upgrading of projection technology, 4K projectors are becoming more popular, and their resolution and color accuracy are constantly improving, narrowing the gap with TVs in high-end models.
