Most modern projectors come with built-in speakers, so they can temporarily serve as audio output devices, but their sound quality and functional performance vary greatly from professional speakers. Whether to use a projector as a speaker depends on your audio demands and usage scenarios.
Basic audio playback is fully achievable with projectors. Built-in speakers are designed to match video playback. When watching short videos, news or daily variety shows in a small bedroom or dormitory, the sound volume and definition can meet basic listening needs. You can connect mobile phones, tablets or computers to the projector via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or audio cables. Once paired successfully, the projector will output sound independently even without projecting images, just like a regular Bluetooth speaker. This function is convenient for temporary audio use in casual scenarios.
However, projector speakers have obvious limitations in sound quality. Restricted by internal space, the speaker unit inside the projector is small, with insufficient low-frequency performance. The bass is weak, the sound field is narrow, and there is almost no stereo surround effect. When playing music, movies or game soundtracks that require rich sound layers, the sound will be thin and dull, lacking immersion. At high volume, the speakers are prone to distortion and noise, which greatly damages the listening experience.
For long-term music listening or home theater use, external audio equipment is a better choice. You can connect desktop speakers, sound bars or home theater audio sets to the projector through audio interfaces. If you only need simple voice output occasionally, using the projector as a temporary speaker is completely feasible. It is a practical auxiliary function, but cannot replace professional audio equipment for high-standard audio enjoyment.
